California's new sick leave law takes effect as of July 1st. The new law app lies to all private and public sector employers regardless of size and covers all employees, including part-time workers. There is much misinformation and confusion about what is now required. We have included to important documents that will help explain the new law. The first is a "Who, What, When, and How" document that provides an overview of the new paid sick leave in California. Employers beware: There are many nuances to this particular piece of legislation, which are not covered in this white paper. You may want to consult your labor and employment counsel with any specific questions about how this law applies to their workforce. If you do not have counsel, please contact the Greater San Fernando Valley Chamber for a referral to a Chamber member. The second is a post from the CalChamber's HR Watchdog blog that discusses the importance of having a written paid sick leave policy in place. Finally, we've included a link to a CalChamber video that is an easy way to access information about the new mandate. We encourage you to watch it as there is a lot of misleading information about the law and in particular the number of days employers must provide. It is very important that all employers understand what the new mandate involves and have access to resources that can ensure you are in compliance. You may want to consult a labor and employment counsel with specific questions; if you do not have counsel, please contact the Redondo Beach Chamber at (310) 376-6911 for a referral to a Chamber member.
